RedBird High Intensity Cardio Interval Training combines a Pilates-style warm-up, to prepare core muscles, warm up hips and bring mental focus, with high intensity cardio interval training. This high-energy class is a fierce but intelligent way to improve cardiovascular health, achieve anaerobic conditioning, increase bone density and gain strength. All sequences are designed to ensure that clients work through all planes of movement and receive balanced muscular training - to prevent injury, imbalance and burnout. Classes end with five to 10 minutes of stretch and functional neuroscience drills. HIIT cardio builds on the alignment and precision learned in RB Pilates classes. Using the strength, form and focus that you develop through your Pilates practice, you can challenge yourself to the next level - applying those principles to a high intensity workout.

FAQs

What is HIIT? High Intensity Interval Training is doing exercise in short bursts or interval periods of maximum exertion with a short rest period in between. Interval training has grown in popularity since the early 2000s because of its efficiency and effectiveness. Research continues to prove that cardio training in this manner yields maximum results with minimum muscular overdevelopment, overuse, or strain on the joints and with limited time commitment from participants.

Why is RB HIIT unique? RB HIIT, like all RB series programs, progresses. It begins by laying a strong movement foundation and taking the time to educate clients on proper form and execution of key movements in a HIIT training program. It is not what you do, but how you do it. RB takes the time to educate clients on form, as well as modifications, to produce maximum results and minimize injury. Second, our HIIT sequences are carefully designed using the proprietary RB track system to ensure that the body is moved through all planes of motion for balanced muscular development, injury prevention and maximum results. Finally, each HIIT class begins with a Pilates style warm-up that prepares the spine, hips and shoulder joints for movement - fusing RB programs into an incredibly effective class that tones the abs, arms and legs as well as improves cardio.

Do I need equipment? You need athletic shoes, a towel or a mat and some water. Other than that everything else is body weight training.

What level of athlete do I need to be for this workout? These classes are all level. We will always show modifications to reduce the intensity of the exercises. You may also start by doing fewer intervals and work up to the whole set as your cardiovascular capacity increases.

I hate cardio - do I have to do this? No, of course not. But you should get cardio in some way three to five times a week. That can include walking, swimming, biking, anything that gets your heart rate up. Heart health is important and no fitness routine is complete if it leaves the cardiovascular system out. You certainly don't have to - nor should you - do HIIT everyday. Three times a week is plenty for high intensity training. The great thing about HIIT is it is fast - so you get your cardio over with sooner!

I am already very fit - will this work for me? Yes. The first video is a review of the fundamental movements - which is great for all of us to do every once in a while no matter how active we are. The rest are HIIT workouts that can be as intense as you want to make it - all the way up to elite athletic training.

Can I watch this on my phone? Yes, all of these videos will play on any device.

Elisabeth Kristof, RedBird owner and co-director began her fitness career in 2006 as a group fitness instructor at the YMCA of Austin and later with Baby Boot Camp. Elisabeth has a large and loyal clientele that has been with her for many years. She enables lasting change for clients through education, sustainable and progressive training programs and supportive communities. Applying RedBird’s definitive methodology, which emphasizes precision movement and proper body alignment, she develops innovative programming, including RedBird’s unique Body Engineering programs and Primal 7 suspension-band workouts. Elisabeth also develops instructional curriculum for RedBird’s rigorous 450-hour teacher training program. She is certified by Body Arts and Science International (BASI) and the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) as a Pilates instructor and as a personal trainer by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). She is also Z-health Essentials certified in functional neuroscience of movement, Primal 7-certified and TRX-certified. Elisabeth earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. She received a prestigious Carnegie-Knight News21 fellowship for her reporting and writing on public health.
